Dermal Fillers

What is the role of fillers in Aesthetic medicine?
As we age, we naturally lose facial volume and definition due to the breakdown of collagen. However, with fillers, we can add volume to the necessary areas, which will contour and balance the face once again. See before and after photos below.
What to expect during treatment
Fillers are volumizing materials (most are sugar-based products found naturally in the skin) that are injected into the skin using a needle or blunt cannula. It is a little uncomfortable; however, we can offer numbing to the area prior to treatment. We also use ice packs before treatment to decrease pain and bruising.
What to expect post treatment?
There is no downtime with filler injections. However, some may experience temporary bruising and swelling at the site of the injections.
How to prepare for the treatment?
We ask that you come in with a clean face and no makeup. Try to avoid blood thinners (unless prescribed by your physician), such as Aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, etc., a few days before your appointment to decrease the risk of bruising.
How long do the results last?
This depends on the type of filler used. The classic fillers last about 4 months, but the newer generation of fillers can last up to 2 years. You can discuss with Dr. Heidi which type of filler is best for your needs.
